Jazz
I hate playing Jazz.
I love listening to certain Jazz artists (Oscar Peterson, for example, I could listen to all day and night without a rest; and Ben Webster, too). But I hate playing Jazz.
Why? Well, it's simply because I'm not very good at it. I could bluff it in front of a room of non-musicians, but a Jazz pianist would suss me out immediately. I'm not a bad pianist by any means (if I do say so myself!), but to play Jazz properly means I would have to go back to basics and start learning an entirely new technique from scratch. It'd be the same as an accomplished Jazz man learning Classical piano for the first time. And not being good at something piano-related makes me frustrated!
The answer? Either get over it, or pull my finger out and get practising. Time will tell which one I choose...
